What would happen if all the children were told tomorrow that there is no Santa Claus?
Kindergartens would be as festive as a funeral, and there would be a junior crisis of confidence that we would richly deserve. After all, how would we react to a head of state who told us a similar fairy tale? If we want to give our smallest children gifts in celebration of our holidays, maybe we should just invent a custom in which the parents participate instead. After all, I don't know of a single child who wouldn't be even more thrilled to feel the spirit of Santa Claus in his own mom and dad. (Look at all that undeserved credit that Santa Claus gets! And then the ones who do deserve the credit get into trouble!)
