The first thing you need to do is check the fluid level. It is critical that an automatic transmission has the proper fluid level. If the level is OK, it's possible (barely) that the linkage is broken or came off, or that you have a defective controller. It's unusual for an automatic to just quit and do nothing, generally, you'll notice slippage or noise, and you'll have problem in one or two gears first, because the different ratios are driven by different parts. But check your fluid first.
